Well, the seasonal depression is on it's way to setting in...there's no more holiday festivities to occupy my mind. What it does mean though, is that it's prime time to get my butt to the gym and work on that goal I had to work on a better me. It's always harder than it seems, but if I don't work on me, then it will be almost impossible to work on a few of those other goals I had. Not to mention, burning those endorphins will help to curb that seasonal depression (yes, I definitely believe there is such a thing!) Here are few tips and tricks I use to keep myself motivated and make myself get a good sweat shesh in...
1// Plan your workout ahead.
This one is key for me. Writing down a plan of action is vital to make sure that you are able to stick to it. If you have something to go by, it makes it that much easier. Not only are you able to know what you have on tap for that day, but with it written out, you are able to track your progress. Tracking your progress is just as important as planning ahead because tracking provides you with that mirror showcasing the 'before and after.' Planning is key. Planning sets things in motion and makes it harder to back out. Plan ahead. Pack a bag and take with you (keep it in the car!), grab your notebook or phone, and just go.
2// Make a playlist.
Who doesn't love a good playlist? Making a playlist to jam out to while sweating improves your overall mood and allows you to work through the pain. Use the music to fuel your workout. If you feel as though you aren't able to keep going or want to give up, use your favorite song to guide you through. Most jams only last a few minutes, so push it out through the end. You'll thank me later that you were able to.
3// Make it a date.
Grab someone to go with you. It's always ten times easier to go with someone, especially if you planned ahead and made it a part of your day. Your partner will help to provide a solid foundation to keep making it a part of your day and it holds you accountable. Look at them as your accountability partner, someone will always know if you dipped out and didn't get sweaty...
4// Get a new outfit.
This isn't necessary, but it sure does help. When you feel good about what you're wearing, you are more likely to put more effort in. Find something cute and go with it. Lay it out the night before (or wear it so you have no choice but to go!) and use it as a reminder that you have some place you have to be.
5// Make it fun.
Who says that working out has to mundane? Find ways to incorporate different activities. Working out doesn't mean you have to go to the gym or run around the track. Find activities like hiking, kayaking, taking walks, or hitting the playground with your kids to make it more interesting. There are so many different things that you can do besides the norm. Play tag or chop some wood...anything can be used as a workout. Just get off the couch and go!
Getting fit can be easy and fun, make it part of your daily routine and see how much better you feel!
